When Officer Barbrady briefly resigned his police commission and the town fell into disarray, he deputized Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny to help him figure out the Chickenlover case. Deputy Cartman became a star on TV's COPS and was carried away for a bit dealing with poor people, prostitution stings, and of course, Stan's Dad. He's no longer active on the force, now that Officer Barbrady can read.
