Park County Police
About
Until the boys became fourth graders, the law in the town of South Park was limited to only Officer Barbrady, who patrolled alone for the South Park Police, with the familiar tagline To Patronize and Annoy on his car. During his brief resignation, the town fell into chaos without his previously underestimated leadership. After the boys moved on up to the fourth grade, the department expanded with several new members, such as Officer Foley, and Officer Barbrady became South Park's Chief-of-Police.
A new Park County Police Department branch building division was built by City Hall, initially as a detective agency working on case investigation, lead by Lieutenant Dawson and soon by Detective Sgt. Harrison "Harris" Yates, before becoming more and more involved in field work alongside Officer Barbrady. The new department, however, has been shown to be highly corrupt and extremely racist, framing rich black men and frequently using excessive force and brutality. Their incompetence is notorious, but the people of South Park continue to turn to them whenever they need somebody to do the 'dirty work' for them.
You can be sure that wherever a rich black men needs to be framed, a Mexican accidentally shot, a poor black man choked, or just a damn good media campaign, the Park County Police will be there.
Members
Leadership
The exact leadership structure of the police force is unknown, but they all answer to Mayor McDaniels at the end of the day. Barbrady, Dawson and Yates have all been shown in charge of major operations in separate episodes, but Yates with Murphey alongside him has been the most common arrangement for quite some time now.
Detectives
These detectives work directly below the leadership to help solve big cases like the notorious Left Hand Killer and help frame the town's rich black men.
Officers
The following police officers, voiced primarily by Matt Stone, do most of the field work these days. While they often have the best intentions of truth and justice, they are nonetheless corrupt, racist and prone to excessive force and violence, by the books.
Junior Detectives/Inspectors
Not only can kids be deputized in a time of crisis in the town, but they can be deputized if they display success as Junior Detectives. The main boys have benefited from both sets of circumstances.
Bonus Factoids
- From the seventh through eleventh seasons, Officer Barbrady's South Park Police and Harrison Yates' Park County Police seemed to be separate divisions with their own departments, implying that the former were local and the latter county-wide, but they have since been integrated as a single unit.
- In "South Park: The Stick of Truth", it seems to be suggested that the Park County Police Department is built over the existing Police Department from earlier seasons, which now serves only as the Jail Cell area -- though not identical, they share a similar color scheme and arrangement, though the Jail are appears different in deleted sequences from "The Coon".
- Most detectives outside Harrison Yates and Detective Murphey were phased out by the twelfth season, though a few have more sporadic appearances since then.
