Story

Description

This "special," very fart-intensive episode is a full-length Terrance and Phillip story, in which the two friends (defeat an attempt by Saddam Hussein to conquer Canada. The story opens with Terrance's acquittal during a murder trial, in spite of overwhelming evidence of his guilt. Afterward the prosecutor, nicknamed "Scott the Dick," swears to get the two no matter what.

He soon has his chance. Scott the Dick allies himself with Saddam Hussein, who promises to eliminate Terrance and Phillip in exchange for Scott's help in a not-yet-explained scheme.

Word soon comes that Terrance's daughter, Sally (whose mother is Celine Dion), has been kidnapped in Iran. Terrance and Phillip fly off to Tehran, find the girl within minutes of landing and immediately go home.

They find Canada occupied by the vanguard of Hussein's army, which was smuggled into the country on Terrance and Phillip's return flight. Scott the Dick, realizing his folly, tells the two that this is the beginning of an invasion. The friends decide to strike back during an Ottawa Rough Riders/Vancouver Rough Riders Canadian Football League game, where Hussein plans to reveal his power grab and force Celine Dion to sing the Iraqi national anthem.

The coup is foiled when the crowd at the game farts in unison, unleashing a gas cloud that kills Hussein and his henchmen. Celine Dion then leads everyone in the singing of the Canadian national anthem.

Characters

Character Debuts

While we've seen Terrance and Phillip on TV many times prior to this, it's the first time we meet them in person.

Also, we meet their dog and cat, Barky and Purry, as well as Terrance's "bastard daughter" Sally.

And Celine Dion, of course.

Saddam Hussein, portrayed using real-life photos of the actual Iraqi dictator. Also Ugly Bob and Scott the Dick, who will make another appearance in "Christmas in Canada".

Body Count

Saddam Hussein and his henchmen, all overcome by poisonous anal emissions. Kenny doesn't die, because Kenny (nor any of the other regular cast member except, briefly, for Cartman) doesn't appear.

Behind The Scenes

Where Did The Idea Come From

It was an April Fools joke at the expense of eager viewers waiting for resolution of Season One's cliffhanger, "Cartman's Mom Is A Dirty Slut". South Park thought their fans would appreciate the joke, but quite a few devoted fans were deeply upset about this.

Pop Culture References

Shout Outs

The episode's title is an homage to the 1991 Sally Field film Not Without My Daughter, in which she rescues her child from Iran. Terrance's daughter is, not surprisingly, named Sally. Also, when Scott questions Saddam about his plans for Canada, he replies by saying, "I changed my mind. Pray that I do not change it any more," to which Scott replies, "This deal's getting worse all the time." The lines were originally spoken by Darth Vader and Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back.

Terrance and Phillip eagerly flip on American TV, first watching what appears to be "Jerry Springer" (on which several townspeople from South Park get into a brawl), and then "South Park" itself (the episode "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" plays). Phillip laughs, "God damn, their TV shows are lame!"

Pwn'd

Celine Dion, who not only bore Terrance's love child, but also became pregnant by Ugly Bob, a character so grotesque that he wears a bag over his head. Interestingly, when he takes off the bag he looks exactly like everyone else.

Bonus Factoids

Pointless Observations

Terrance and Phillip (and indeed, all Canadians) seem fascinated by the cheesy stovetop dish Kraft Dinner -- here called Kroff Dinner, in deference to the Canadian accent. Also, the football game between two teams called the RoughRiders is a jab at the Canadian Football League, which until 1996 really did have two teams with that same name. Saddam is killed by fart poison, then decapitated, but comes back as a villain in many future episodes.
