About

Lieutenant Dawson was the friendly lead detective of the Park County Police Station for a brief period who favored getting everything done by the books, whether it's dealing with meth labs or crooked cops. A heavy smoker, he briefly welcomed Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski and Kenny McCormick to the force as Junior Detectives. He hasn't been seen since they left.

Close Friends

Though Dawson never agree with their brutal methods, he came to approve of the South Park Junior Detectives and welcomed them to the force full-time, but they declined.

Rivals

Dawson prefers everything is done by the book, so he hates crooked cops. When Murphy and Jenkins are nearly killed and revealed as corrupt, Dawson is glad the force is clean.

Behind The Scenes

Lieutenant Dawson, though he only appears in one episode, plays an important part in South Park lore as the direct predecessor to Harrison Yates, who soon becomes South Park's lead detective. Trey Parker voices both characters, using the same 'police chief' voice and similar lines and phrases, and from the neck down, the character model is almost the same besides coloration. This eventually leads to the gradual introduction and integration of the Park County Police.
