Story
The boys wait for Dr. Mephesto to regain consciousness and reveal the identity of Cartman's father. Meanwhile, an unexpected blizzard hits South Park.
Description
South Park's male population nervously await for Dr. Mephesto's DNA test results. But just as they're about to be revealed, the lights go out and Mephesto is shot twice. Chef rushes him to the hospital.
A crew from America's Most Wanted promptly shows up and prepares to do a segment on the crime. At the hospital Dr. Doctor and his nurse, the armless Nurse Goodley, manage to stabilize the still-unconscious Mephesto. Meanwhile, a powerful snowstorm traps the America's Most Wanted crew in a TV studio, along with a large group of locals reenacting the shooting. Almost immediately (and in spite of the fact that they've only been without food for a few hours) they resort to cannibalism. Soon much of the Most Wanted crew and studio audience is consumed, along with the townies who aren't recurring characters.
Power goes out at the hospital, and Kenny is sent on a dangerous solo mission to restore it. Not surprisingly, he's electrocuted. The power returns and Mephesto regains consciousness. He says the shooter was probably his brother, who tries to kill him once a month. The potential dads gather at the hospital to find out who fathered Cartman.
It turns out none of them did. Eric's mom is a hermaphrodite with both male and female genitals. She impregnated another woman, raising the question of who Cartman's mother might be. Cartman, disgusted, drops the matter.
What I Learned Today
"Dude! You're a big fat ass and your mom's a hermaphlight!"

- "Oh my God! They killed Mephesto!" (Kenny McCormick)

- "Ummm, Mrs. Cartman, 8 years old is a little late to be considering abortion." (Unplanned Parenthood Nurse)
- "I'm bringing home some Eric Roberts in a doggy bag. Does anyone else want some?" (Mr. Garrison)
- "The father is Mrs. Cartman!" (Dr. Alphonse Mephesto)

Character Debuts
Body Count

Locations
Behind The Scenes
This episode was supposed to air as the second season premiere on April 1, 1998. However, because of the significant broadcast date, Trey and Matt decided to produce and premiere "Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus" instead as an April Fools' joke.
Where Did The Idea Come From
This is the continuation of the first season's cliffhanger "Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut".

Shout Outs
John Walsh, the host of America's Most Wanted, makes a cameo.
Cartman offers a stirring rendition of "Come Sail Away" by Styx (he admits that if he hears the first part of that song, he has to finish it).
When the power gets cut out during the feed of America's Most Wanted, they switch over to their feature movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Kenny's quest to restore the hospital's power mirrors a similar scene in the 1993 film Jurassic Park. Both films involved Steven Spielberg.
Dr. Doctor enlists Chef's help in the operating room after Chef admits he "used to watch Quincy". This is a reference to Quincy M.E, a medical drama from the late 70's.
The scene in which the South Park residents draw straws to determine who gets eaten is from a deleted moment in Cannibal! The Musical. Also, the South Park residents pulling themselves out of the TV studio is a parody of the survival drama film Alive, while Aaron Neville's version of "Ave Maria" by Austrian composer Franz Schubert plays.
Pwn'd
It's revealed that Chef owns a "Meredith Baxter-Birney memorial towel." Apparently Chef had sex with the former star of sitcom Family Ties then the two of them used the towel to freshen up.
Actor Eric Roberts, brother of actress Julia Roberts, plays the part of Dr. Mephesto's "little monkey guy" (aka Kevin) in the America's Most Wanted reenactment. He is also the first person to be cannibalized. As the Mayor puts it: "Nobody gives a shit about Eric Roberts".
Bonus Factoids
Pointless Observations
- Kenny was killed in part one of this double-episode after being run over by a train, but in the beginning of this show, he angelically materializes out of thin air. He dies again a few minutes later.
- The doctor has a patient injected with sodium pentathol which is a commonly used general anesthetic. It was also commonly used as lethal injection to execute U.S. prisoners.
- A running gag throughout the episode is the announcer asking these questions: "Who is Eric Cartman's father?", "Who shot Mephesto?", and "Who is Eric Cartman's mother?" These, along with Dr. Mephesto getting shot in the dark, are common climax-building cliches in the mystery genre.
- Cartman's parentage is not brought up again until several seasons later. It is finally solved not in this episode, but in "201".
- During the final scene where all of Cartman's potential fathers are gathered, there's a Visitor present.
